Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on November 20, 1942. Joe grew up in a Catholic family with three siblings. When he was young, his family fell on hard times.

In the 1950s, when the economy in Scranton was getting worse, his father couldn't find work. In the end, Joe's family had to move to Delaware, where Joe's dad got a job selling used cars.

Joe Biden played football in high school and was also elected class president. In 1965, he got his Bachelor of Arts degree. During his time at the University of Delaware, where he studied history and political science, he played college football.

During the Vietnam War, Biden could put off his draft by going to school. Joe went on to get a law degree from Syracuse University College of Law in 1968.
