What is PlayStation Plus?
Sony said on Tuesday that it will launch a redesigned PlayStation Plus gaming subscription service. PlayStation Plus, Sony's new membership service, will include both PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now.
PlayStation Plus is viewed as Sony's answer to Microsoft's lucrative Xbox Game Pass membership program, which PlayStation Plus aims to replicate.
PlayStation Plus will be available in select Asian nations beginning in June, before being rolled out across the Americas, Europe, and other continents. In the next weeks, the firm is expected to reveal further details about the exact delivery dates.
How many tiers are in the service?
The new subscription service will be available in three different price tiers.
PlayStation Plus Essential
The cheapest tier is referred to as “PlayStation Plus Essential,” and it offers the same perks as current PlayStation Plus subscribers, including two monthly downloaded titles, unique discounts, cloud storage for stored games, and online multiplayer access.
The price for PlayStation Plus Essential stays the same as the current PlayStation Plus price of $9.99 per month, $24.99 per quarter, or $59.99 per year, whichever is greater. It costs €8.99 a month in Europe, €24.99 every quarter, and €59.99 per year in the United States.
PlayStation Plus Extra
Second, there is an intermediate tier, which is referred to as “PlayStation Plus Extra.” It includes all of the same privileges as the Essential tier, as well as a selection of up to 400 PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 titles.
Games on the Extra tier, according to Sony, can be downloaded for use in online multiplayer games.
The Extra tier is $14.99 a month, $39.99 per quarter, or $99.99 per year, depending on your preference. It costs €13.99 per month in Europe, €39.99 every quarter, or €99.99 per year in the rest of the world.
PlayStation Plus Premium
The most expensive version of the subscription service is named “PlayStation Plus Premium,” and it includes access to everything available in the Essential and Extra tiers, as well as 340 games, including PS3 titles that can be streamed over the internet.
In addition, classic games will be available in both streaming and download formats on the tier, including original PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and PSP titles.
Customers will be able to test out selected games before purchasing them, according to Sony, who also notes that time-limited game trials will be available in the tier.
For $17.99 per month, $49.99 per quarter, or $119.99 per year, you can upgrade to the Premium tier. It costs €16.99 per month in Europe, €49.99 every quarter, or €119.99 per year in the rest of the world.
