Longtime producer Jerry Bruckheimer announced in late August 2022 that Ted Elliot, who has worked on four previous Pirates of the Caribbean films, would direct the sixth installment in the franchise.

The production team behind Pirates of the Caribbean 6 has yet to announce the film's official release date. The movie is expected to hit theatres this summer. Should Johnny Depp Reprise His Role as Captain Jack Sparrow?

This has been a hotly debated topic, with some Harry Potter fans demanding that Johnny Depp be written out of the films much as he was written out of the Fantastic Beasts movies. With Disney‘s production chief Sean Bailey saying in an interview that he wants to “add a fresh energy and vigor to the brand,” it's safe to assume that Depp's character is no longer a part of Disney's plans for the film series.

Legends of his voyages (many of which are wholly fictional stories made by Jack himself) have traveled far and wide in the Pirates universe, so while the character may not return physically, we do expect him to be addressed in dialogue.
