American television writer and producer Philip Rosenthal (born January 27, 1960)[1] is best known for his work on the CBS comedy Everybody Loves Raymond (1996–2005).

Both of Rosenthal's parents were born in Germany, and after World War II Rosenthal's mother traveled to Cuba, where she met her husband, before moving to New York City, where she met his father. Although he was born to a Jewish family in Queens, New York Rosenthal spent most of his youth there, which is in Rockland County. For his high school, he was an active member of the Cue ‘N Curtain club and the theatre department.

In 1977, Rosenthal graduated from Clarkstown North High School in Clarkstown, New Jersey. To further his education, he attended Hofstra University after high school, where he earned his bachelor's degree the following year (1981).

Rosenthal began his career as an actor in New York City in the early 1980s before transitioning to production work, writing and producing series including Coach and the short-lived Baby Talk.

Everybody Loves Raymond was Rosenthal's most lucrative and longest-running endeavor. With Ray Romano as a co-producer, the show drew on some of Romano's own comedic stuff.

In the series, Monica Horan, Rosenthal's wife, portrayed Amy MacDougall-Barone, Robert Barone's (Brad Garrett's) on-and-off lover (and, after season 7, his wife). Rosenthal and Romano, against the wishes of the rest of the group, opted to end the show. There are twenty-one episodes in the series that Rosenthal wrote or co-wrote with him.
