On June 18, 2021, No Sudden Move had its international debut at the Tribeca Film Festival. On July 1, 2021, it was released on HBO Max.

The film has an acceptance rating of 88% based on 65 reviews on the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, with an average rating of 7.6/10. “While it may not be on par with his finest criminal capers, No Sudden Move finds Soderbergh on entertainingly familiar ground—and making the most of a superb cast,” the website's reviewers consensus says.

. “Another instantly immersive, richly layered, and beautifully shot chapter in one of the most impressive directing careers of our time,” wrote Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times. Mike D'Angelo of The A.V. Club gave the film a “B+” grade, calling it a “twisty new caper,” saying: “Movies routinely place characters in desperate, life-or-death situations.”

The Plot

The plot of No Sudden Move is “In 1950s Detroit, a gangster called Curt Goynes plans a heist as he needs cash. So, according to the plan, he needs two criminals to take a family hostage. So, he hires two criminals Ronald and Charley to take a family hostage. The criminals are informed about babysitting the hostages for a few hours. For now, the plan seems to be implemented successfully, but later, there is an unexpected twist as the heist goes completely wrong. Thereafter the criminals are in a quest of the one who hired them.

It looks simple right? Two criminals are hired to hostage the family to blackmail them for money, so simple? But “No Sudden Move” is different from any such status quo. There are so many hurdles, twists, and turns that come around when they move forward to implementing their plan.
