Anthony Duclair has a new hockey team, which implies new grooming guidelines.
After following general manager Lou Lamoriello's instructions and shaving his beard and cutting his hair, the former forward for the San Jose Sharks became an official member of the New York Islanders.
Duclair, 28, posted a picture of his dreadlocks on Thursday, August 22, following a significant haircut. He included an emoticon of a happy face crying.
No facial hair, no hair that falls past the collar, and no jewelry, including necklaces and earrings, are among Lamoriello's requirements for his players. On the team bus or airplane, as well as during games, ties and jackets are required.
The MLB's New York Yankees have a regulation quite similar to this one. Yankees players' hair hasn't touched their collar since 1976. The only acceptable facial hair for players is a mustache.
Although Lamoriello's guidelines are nothing new, after Duclair shared a picture on his Instagram Story, several social media users expressed their disapproval of his haircut.
One person commented on X, “I get that Anthony Duclair knew full well what signing with a Lou Lamoriello GM'd team would mean for his personal style and hair and was accepting of it.” “However, that doesn't make a personal rule that stupid any less stupid.”
Jordan Schmaltz, a former NHL player, held a different viewpoint regarding the rules.
“Lou Lamoriello, whether you love him or hate him, is a classic Providence gangster who runs the team with rigid, almost Catholic boarding school-style rules and regulations that everyone has to abide by. On travel days, a well shaven, suit, and tie look quite military,” he stated via X on Thursday.
Not to your taste? Don't ask to be moved or sign there. It's not that complicated. If Lou wanted me to, I would also wax my eyebrows, shave my face, chest, legs, and bush while we're at it. Hell, I'd get waxed Brazilian-style.
The whole Nelson. He shows his players a great deal of care and provides them with numerous rewards in return for all of that.
There are several things about NHL player Duclair that fans like. One of them is his style. Not only did the player receive a reported $14 million, four-year contract with the Islanders, but he also founded The Anthony Duclair Foundation.
The nonprofit organization's goal is to guarantee equitable and safe access to hockey for underprivileged communities in North America.
The organization's website says, “Many of them will never get the opportunity to participate or be exposed to the game because of the current systematic barriers that prevent certain communities from participating in organized hockey.”
“We are dedicated to fostering the game's popularity and ensuring that it is affordable and culturally acceptable for a new generation of hockey players and enthusiasts at the grassroots level.”
