It has been confirmed that Never Alone 2, the sequel to the BAFTA-winning platformer released in 2015, is currently in pre-production.
Those details were revealed in a teaser (below), which also showed off the original Never Alone on the Nintendo Switch, which will be released on February 24 as part of the Arctic Collection, which contains the base game as well as the Foxtales expansion pack.
The trailer concludes with a brief teaser that shows a number 2 appearing above a snowy scene while we hear a fox bark and a giggle can be heard in the background.
Never Alone is not only an amazing platformer, but it is also the result of a collaboration with Alaska Natives, with the goal of spreading understanding of indigenous culture. In an article for IGN, Never Alone is described as “a charming puzzle platformer” and “an indie not to be missed” and the game went on to win the 2015 Gaming BAFTA for Best Debut in 2015.
“We are pleased to announce that we've begun pre-production on a sequel to Never Alone, building upon the same inclusive development partnership for sharing and celebrating Alaska Native culture and storytelling with a global audience,” said Alan Gershenfeld, president and co-founder of developer E-Line Media.
Nothing else has been revealed about Never Alone 2, but it is expected to have similar puzzle platforming gameplay set in a world steeped in traditional Alaska Native culture and will be playable either solo or in co-op with up to four other players.
“Working with the Cook Inlet Tribal Council and the broader Alaska Native community has been a truly inspiring experience for the E-Line team and we are excited to bring the Never Alone Arctic Collection to the Nintendo Switch, an ideal platform for the game's culturally rich co-op gameplay,” Gershenfeld said of the game's Switch release.
