Anthony Summers, the journalist and novelist whose 1985 book Goddess: The Secret Lives of Marilyn Monroe was a New York Times best-seller, conducted extensive audio interviews for the programme. As a type of guide, Summers appears in the film to set the stage for his research and conversations with Monroe's close associates and coworkers. The original audio for the tapes is used—so be sure to turn those captions on—with actors reenacting the phone calls via lip-syncing.

The Unheard Tapes Release Date
On Wednesday, April 27, Netflix will begin streaming The Mystery of MarIlYn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes, a documentary on Monroe's life. Netflix is the only place where you can catch the film, so you won't be able to view it in a cinema. On the morning of the film's scheduled release, Netflix normally makes the movie available for viewing at 12 a.m.
Pacific Time or 3 a.m. Eastern Time. In other words, on April 27 at 12 a.m. PT, or 3 a.m. ET, The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe will be available on Netflix.
After midnight on the West Coast on Thursday, if you still haven't seen the Netflix documentary on Marilyn Monroe, try refreshing the website or signing out and logging back in again to try again.
