Development
Details about My Mum, Tracy Beaker, were announced on August 3, 2020. It was said that the show would be based on Jacqueline Wilson's 2018 book of the same name, which Tracy's creator wrote. It was also noted that Harmer would play Tracy again.
When Harmer was talking about playing Tracy again before filming, she said that she couldn't wait because she liked the character and wanted to know what had happened to her. She also said that because she is a mother in real life, she knows how having a child can change your life and personality.
