First-person horror and full-motion video will be combined in Murderous Muses, which will be released next year. You'll be discouraged from ever establishing an art gallery as a result of this
After all, between this and the films Velvet Buzzsaw and Ghostbusters 2, it appears that collecting paintings is almost certain to bring you into contact with some form of cursed artwork or, in the worst-case scenario, result in your death.
What Is Murderous Muses About?
One of the “six deadly muses” assassinated a troubled and divisive artist named Mordechai Grey years ago. You must now spend three nights in a “cursed gallery where mysterious rooms appear at night and portraits come to life.”
In order to solve this cold case that has been open for decades. You will only be able to “catch the murderous muse” if you spend enough time exploring the gallery's “ever-changing rooms,” solving both environmental and more abstract riddles, and paying close attention to everything you see and hear along the way.
Although it's the work of D'Avekki Studios, it's set to be different from their previous in-house titles, which include The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker, The Shapeshifting Detective, and Dark Nights with Poe and Munro, in that it will combine full-motion video clips (we really need another term for FMV) with 3D exploration.
As you explore the museum, you'll be tasked with solving puzzles and determining who murdered Mordechai, but we expect you to learn that he was a bit of a bastard.
Murderous Muses Release Date
Although no specific release date has been set as of yet, Murderous Muses is expected to be released on Steam for Windows and Mac computers sometime next year, as well as on consoles running the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
We're looking forward to seeing how Murderous Muses turns out, not only because we like D'Avekki's prior releases, but also because it's a departure for the company in terms of genre. It hasn't been given a specific release date yet, but it is expected to arrive on PC and consoles (with the possibility of a VR version) somewhere around 2022.
Final Words
In the interim, you can watch the clip and then be ejected from your local gallery for inquiring as to which of the painters met a bloody death in the process. You might also add Murderous Muses to your Steam wishlist, which is always an option.
