Top 40 Movies Like Midsommar That Will Shiver Your Soul

Midsommar is a 2019 folk horror film written and directed by Ari Aster, and it is set in the Swedish town of Midsommar. After traveling to Sweden with a group of friends for a midsummer celebration, Dani and Christian, portrayed by Florence Pugh and Jack Reynor, find themselves in the grips of a Scandinavian pagan cult, which they must escape.

William Jackson Harper, Vilhelm Blomgren, Ellora Torchia, Archie Madekwe, and Will Poulter are among the performers that appear as supporting characters.

The picture, which is a co-production between the United States and Sweden, was marketed to Aster as a conventional slasher film set among Swedish cultists when it was first announced.

However, while certain aspects of the initial concept are still there in the finished result, the storyline of Aster's film revolves around a failing relationship, which was inspired by a traumatic breakup that he himself went through.

Scandinavian folk music serves as inspiration for the soundtrack, which was composed by British electronic musician Bobby Krlic. During the summer and fall of 2018, the film was shot on location in and around Budapest.

Midsommar was released in theatres in the United States on July 3, 2019, by A24, and in Sweden on July 10, 2019, by Nordisk Film, both of which were distributed by A24. The picture grossed $47.9 million worldwide and garnered overwhelmingly good reviews from professional reviewers, who praised Aster's direction and Pugh's acting in particular, despite the fact that it was a divisive hit with mainstream moviegoers.
