What is the Renewal Status of Morbius Part 2?
Sony has not confirmed the production of Morbius 2, and it is possible that the sequel will not be made. The first film was bombed by crowds and reviewers alike. On a budget of $75 million, it only made $167.5 million overseas.
Critics and moviegoers alike hated the film. They claimed the premise was dated, the effects were subpar, and Jared Leto's performance was flat. The promotion and buzz for the film were hampered by repeated postponements brought on by the COVID-19 epidemic.
Since the film performed better on Netflix than in theaters, a sequel to Morbius remains a remote possibility. A total of 6,971,428 individuals viewed the film on Netflix between September 5 and September 11, 2023. This made it one of the 51 best.
It's possible that this indicates that viewers are engaged with the character and the plot and that a stronger second installment would attract even more viewers. Sony has ambitious intentions for its Marvel IP as well, and it could want to include even more characters and storylines into its shared universe.
Morbius Part 2 Release Date
Even if Sony officially announces Morbius 2, it won't be for a while. Sony has a full lineup of upcoming Marvel films, with releases scheduled for June 2, 2023, for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, October 6, 2023, for Kraven the Hunter, January 12, 2024, for El Muerto, February 16, 2024, for Madame Web, and TBA for Venom 3.
It would be difficult to squeeze in Morbius Part 2 between these films, so it would have to wait until they are completed. The release date for Morbius Part 2 is tentatively set for late 2024 or early 2025.
What Could Be the Storyline of Morbius Part 2?
Morbius Part 2 would follow Michael Morbius as he continues to adjust to life as a living vampire. At the end of the first film, Morbius was bailed out of jail by his friend Loxias Crown (Matt Smith), who transformed into a vampire thanks to an injection of Morbius' blood.
And then, in Spider-Man: Homecoming, they ran across Michael Keaton's Vulture, Adrian Toomes (also known as Vulture). Toomes invited them to become part of the Sinister Six, his gang of villains.
The second installment of Morbius could focus on Morbius' internal conflict over his vampire and human nature, as well as his relationship with Martine Bancroft (Adria Arjona), his human fiancée who still loves him despite his transformation.
Since Morbius will have to face off against new human and vampire opponents and threats, the sequel may feature more action and horror as well. More crossovers and team-ups could be established in the sequel if it establishes connections to previous SUMC films like Venom and Spider-Man.
