What is the Show about?
Midnight Mass is the storey of a small, secluded island village whose already-existing tensions are exacerbated when a disgraced young man (Zach Gilford) returns and a charismatic priest arrives (Hamish Linklater). When Father Paul's arrival on Crockett Island coincides with mysterious and seemingly miraculous happenings, the community experiences a fresh sense of religious zeal – but might these miracles come at a cost?
Let's Know About the Episodes
Episode 1
Riley Flynn returns to his birthplace of Crockett Island, a small offshore fishing community, after serving four years in jail for causing the death of a young lady in a drunk driving accident. Riley tries to reintegrate with the town's devout Catholic society, which includes his parents Annie and Ed, adolescent brother Warren, and childhood girlfriend Erin Greene, despite having lost his religion during his sentence.
Episode 2
The cats found along the shore had no known cause of death, according to the locals. Bev sprays 1080 around the church's perimeter to keep predators at bay. Father Paul discovers that Leeza Scarborough, the Crockett mayor's wheelchair-bound daughter, was crippled after being shot by the town alcoholic Joe Collie. Joe's dog dies unexpectedly after eating food from the ground at the island's traditional Ash Wednesday “Potluck” Festival.
Episode 3
After Leeza's miraculous recovery, which the inhabitants think was a miracle, Crockett Island begins to experience a religious resurgence. Leeza pays a visit to Joe, who is seeing her rehabilitation for the first time, and tearsfully confesses her hate for him for causing her life-altering disability, only to forgive him in the end.
Joe, moved, decides to join Riley and Father Paul at an AA meeting. When Sheriff Hassan finds that his son Ali is studying the Bible, his Muslim religion pits him against the town's predominantly Christian populace.
Episode 4
Erin is informed that she has miscarried during a routine examination by Crockett Island's resident doctor Sarah Gunning. Erin spends the day with Riley, distraught, grieving her unborn child and talking about their childhoods and beliefs about the afterlife. Erin travels to the mainland the next morning for a second opinion, when a doctor wonders if Erin was ever truly pregnant. Meanwhile, Bev deduces Father Paul's actual identity when he begins to show signs of vampirism, such as burning in the sun.
Episode 5
Erin files a Missing Persons Case with Sheriff Hassan, who believes Riley may have relapsed or committed suicide due to his unexpected departure. Father Paul preaches a homily filled with military imagery on the evening of Good Friday Mass, urging the audience to prepare for war as soldiers in God's army. Mildred Gunning, whose physical and mental health appears to be fast recovering following Father Paul's visit, is disturbed by the sermon. Riley shows up on Erin's doorstep later that night and invites her to join him on a boat ride offshore.
