MaXXXine Release Date: Everything We Know So Far!

The next franchise from Ti West and Mia Goth has sent shockwaves through the horror business. Both the first film, X, and its follow-up/prequel, Pearl, which both starred Goth, proved to be unexpected successes. A third movie is now under production.

With its star-studded ensemble and interesting premise, MaXXXine looks to be the perfect way to wrap up the A24 trilogy. Even though production on the film has begun, few details are known. So, here is all that has been revealed about the movie.

Does MaXXXine Have a Release Date?

There has been no announcement regarding a release date for MaXXXine. Depending on the course of events, 2023 is a distinct possibility. Currently, I'm estimating a time frame of 2023–2024. X and Pearl, the first two movies in the series, were both released in the same year.

Pearl and X were shot simultaneously. So Mia Goth was performing in three different shows at once; if that doesn't speak to her skill, I don't know what will.

MaXXXine Cast: Is Mia Goth Returning?

In X, Mia Goth played both Maxine and the older Pearl, a part she would later play in a horror film with the same title. Goth will reprise her role as the aspirational actress in MaXXXine. Although she is an executive producer on MaXXXine like she was on Pearl, Goth did not collaborate with writer/director Ti West on the script.

MaXXXine Release Date

Goth is the only confirmed cast member for MaXXXine as of March 2023. The tale is hinted at by the new characters as well. The casting of Elizabeth Debicki as a director and Giancarlo Esposito as an agent for porn stars suggests that the world of adult films will be further explored in the sequel.

The casting of Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, and Kevin Bacon as investigators strongly hint at a criminal aspect, which might take the form of a murder mystery. Roles for new cast members Lilly Collins, Moses Sumney, and Halsey are now under wraps.

MaXXXine plot: What is happening in the movie?

The official plot summary for MaXXXine reads as follows: “The film follows Maxine, after the events of X, as the sole survivor who continues her journey towards fame setting out to make it as an actress in 1980s Los Angeles.”

The decade of the 1980s in Los Angeles will serve as the backdrop. According to X, Maxine possesses the star quality necessary to succeed, but if the themes of Pearl are any indication, the road to fame will be perilous for her.

Here is Everything We Know About Where ‘MaXXXine' was shot

Although both X and Pearl were set on a farm in rural Texas, production for both movies took place outside of the United States. Screen Rant claims that the majority of these movies were shot in New Zealand by director Ti West.

MaXXXine Release Date

MaXXXine is set in Hollywood, California, six years after the events of X, and follows Maxine Minx as she pursues a career in the film industry. World of Reel claims that production is presently underway in Los Angeles, which bodes well for the authenticity of the film's settings. As more trailers are produced, more information will become available about the actual filming locations used.

Is There a Trailer for the Movie?

There is a short teaser for MaXXXine, but no full-length trailer as of yet. A24 posted the trailer with a “Coming Soon” label on April 5th, 2023. You may view it here:

The music “Obsession” by Animotion from 1983 provides both joyful and foreboding foreshadowing in the teaser, which clocks in at just over a minute.

The scene shifts to Los Angeles in 1985, six years after X, and begins with TV static from the 1970s. As the camera moves on, we see that “HOLLYWOOD” has been replaced by “MAXXXINE.” Surely, this alludes to the story of the planned third installment.
