Marlowe Release Date: when will it air?

Marlowe was shown for the first time on September 24, 2022, at the 70th San Sebastián International Film Festival, but people in the U.S. haven't had a chance to see it yet.

What Is the Story of the Film “Marlowe”?

The plot of the 1950s film Marlowe centers on private investigator Philip Marlowe, who is recruited by a beautiful heiress to track down an old flame. American-British novelist and screenwriter Raymond Chandler, who lost his job as an oil company executive at the age of 44 during the Great Depression and afterward turned to write mystery fiction, invented the character of Philip Marlowe.

Marlowe was initially introduced in Chandler's 1939 hardboiled crime thriller The Big Sleep, however, earlier stories by Chandler had characters with comparable traits.

Despite its title, the picture Marlowe is not based on any of Chandler's novels. Instead, it's based on John Banville's 2014 novel The Black-Eyed Blonde (written under the pen name Benjamin Black). Banville brings Marlowe back to life in his novel and places the action in the early 1950s.

“Marlowe is as restless and lonely as ever, and business is a touch slow,” it states on the back of the book. The doorbell rings and Marlowe is introduced to a new client: a young, gorgeous, and expensively dressed woman who needs his help tracking down her ex-lover, a man named Nico Peterson. In the film, Philip Marlowe is played by Liam Neeson, a well-known actor in his 70s. This is the actor's 100th film, so it holds a special position in his resume. The Oscar-winning Irish actor has appeared in a wide variety of films, including Schindler's List, Batman Begins, Gangs of New York, and Wrath of the Titans.

Aside from Diane Kruger and Jessica Lange, the new film Marlowe also features Alan Cumming, Danny Huston, Daniela Melchior, Colm Meaney, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.

Screenwriter William Monahan adapted John Banville's 2014 novel The Black-Eyed Blonde. In March 2017, Neeson was cast as the lead, and in June 2021, Neil Jordan was hired as the director. In November 2021, they announced more castings.

For two months beginning in November 2021, principal photography took conducted. Scenes set on Los Angeles's exterior were filmed in Barcelona, Spain, while those placed inside were filmed in Dublin, Ireland.

Jordan stated that the style of the film was inspired by the 1982 film Blade Runner “So, I'm in the process of developing a film that takes place in old-school L.A., but it ends up being a science fiction movie. The art department and the film crew found it to be a useful resource.”
