A new Dungeons & Dragons film has finally been given a release date, full title, and trailer after years of waffling. Fans of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves have waited a long time for official announcements, and now they have access to some of the data they need.
This has been an excellent year for fantasy lovers and devotees of the classic tabletop role-playing game, with San Diego Comic-Con and CCXP hosting a number of informative, entertaining, and engaging events related to the film.
What Is Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves About?
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves follows a team of thieves (unsurprising given the title) who, “helped the wrong person steal the wrong thing,” and now have to fix their mistakes and save the world.
Even if they are dishonest, they will not sit by and watch the ultimate evil destroy their world. Doric, a tiefling druid, is part of a squad that also comprises Holga, a barbarian; Xenk, a paladin; Simon, a sorcerer; and Elgin, a bard & the group's planner.
Star Chris Pine, who plays Elgin, described the film:
“Game of Thrones mixed with a little Princess Bride [and] just a smidge of Holy Grail” and said it’s “poppy, it's eighties heartfelt, [and] there's a bit of Goonies in there.”
Director and writer John Daley have promised that there will be a “lot of Easter eggs thrown in there” for fans of the D&D tabletop game who are anticipating the appearance of familiar spells, tropes, and artifacts from the role-playing game.
Paramount's official plot summary reads as follows:
A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings the rich world and playful spirit of the legendary roleplaying game to the big screen in a hilarious and action-packed adventure.
