On September 7, 2018, Mac Miller overdosed on oxycodone that had been cut with fentanyl. A first autopsy concluded that he died of an accidental overdose of fentanyl, alcohol & cocaine at his San Fernando Valley Residence, in California. Miller had a history of addiction that was well-documented & he appeared to be making progress toward sobriety when he relapsed.

In September 2018, 39-year-old Ryan Reavis pled guilty to providing oxycodone that had been cut with fentanyl. He was given a 10-year & 11-month prison term. The US Attorney's Office claims that Reavis sold fentanyl-tainted pills to Cameron Jame Pettit, 30, Miller's narcotics dealer. According to documents presented in federal court in LA, Reavis delivered the medicines to Pettit at Walter's direction.

Two days before Miller's death, on September 5, 2018, Pettit allegedly sold him the drugs. 3 persons were arrested & charged in connection with Miller's killing, although only Reavis has been given a sentence at this time. The case against Pettit has still to be resolved, but the 49-year-old Stephen Walter has pleaded guilty to the distribution charge against him and is awaiting punishment.

Friends and fans, including his ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande, were crushed by his passing.

Grande delivered a moving eulogy for Miller, lamenting, “I can't believe you aren't here anymore. My mind just won't accept it. I don't know what to do; I'm so frustrated & depressed. I wish I could have helped ease your suffering, but I can't. We wanted to do it badly.”

During this time, rapper and musician Post Malone tweeted, “God f****** damned. You were an amazing human being. Mac affected a great many people.

“You were filled to the brim with love. I owe a lot of my success since graduating from high school to the motivation you provided. Never have I met a more gorgeous, genuine & caring human being. In other words, “I f****** adore you, mac.”
