The developer straka.studio (@straka studio) has confirmed that their upcoming island-shifting action-roguelike Loot River will be included in the Game Pass subscription service when it launches on PC and Xbox platforms next year. Prepare to embark on an adventure down an otherworldly river in search of knowledge and treasure!
For this occasion, straka.studio has released an entirely new animated trailer that showcases the waterlogged labyrinths of Loot River in a unique and entertaining manner. As for those interested in playing the game themselves, a new demo for Xbox One, Xbox Series S&X, and PC was just made available earlier this week for download. It allows players to experience the tutorial, a sample wooden level, and an initial dungeon run while downloading and installing the game. While the full game will be procedurally generated, this demo is locked to a single seed in order to provide players with a taste of Loot River's unique isle-shifting mechanic and combat system before they purchase the full game.
It's an action-roguelike game set in a series of procedurally-generated labyrinths that combines the tense, real-time combat, and dark fantasy stylings of Dark Souls with the spatial block-shifting puzzles of Tetris to create a dungeon-crawling experience unlike any other.
If they have enough strength, players can shift the ground beneath them, sliding floating ruins together in a series of tile puzzles to complete their mission. As they make their way through the endless catacombs, players will come face to face with beasts, lost travelers, and bosses. They contain an abundance of new weapons and equipment to discover, as well as unholy knowledge that can be unearthed and used to upgrade your character permanently.
Wandering nomads have been drawn to shards of an unholy relic, and have found themselves trapped in a never-ending cycle of life and death, losing their minds as they journey through endless parallel realities, devouring one another in order to absorb the knowledge of their companions. Because there are so many lost souls floating through the Loot River, no two journeys are ever the same.
“We're thrilled to have partnered with Microsoft to bring Loot River to Game Pass,” said Miro Straka, co-founder of Loot River. “We believe it provides excellent value to the consumer and allows us to reach as many players as possible with the game.” In this regard, we are grateful that Microsoft has chosen to collaborate with us. We look forward to sharing Loot River with the rest of the world in 2022!”
Loot River will be released in 2022!
