Author of “Little Fires Everywhere” Celeste Ng gave her thoughts on whether or not there should be a second season. You couldn't possibly ever say that, right? Perhaps one of these people will come back to me with a suggestion for a story I should tell. On the other side, Ng felt that there was enough ambiguity in the ending to make the story interesting.
Season 2 will take a long time no matter what happens with the characters heading back to Ng and Tigelaar.

Mia and Pearl abandon their family in the novel Little Fires Everywhere, while Elena spends nearly her whole life trying to locate her sister Izzy. McCullough lost a substantial sum of money, but she eventually learned the truth about the abduction of her adopted daughter.
The stories were initially supposed to conclude like this. Producers, however, altered the show's original conclusion. Eventually, the show showed McCullough being kidnapped and Elena telling Izzy she didn't want her, so Izzy left. Alternatively, it has been proposed that Mia introduce Pearl to her parents.
