The former University of Texas and NBA great and executive Lance Blanks has died at the age of 56. The cause of death is unknown. His mother, Clarice, his wife, Renee, his children Riley and Bryn, his son, Sidney Jr., and granddaughter, Isabel, all predeceased him.

One of Lance Blanks' children, Riley Blanks Reed, has called her dad her mentor, inspiration, and closest confidant. She told him how much she appreciated his selflessness in supporting his loved ones.

She said that he had put his faith in her and her sister to carry on the family business even though the future was uncertain without him. Originally from Del Rio, Texas, Blanks transferred to the University of Texas Longhorns from the University of Virginia for the 1988–1989 and 1989–1990 seasons.
