Kin Movie Plot
In Detroit, Elijah “Eli” Solinski, 14, lives with his strict adoptive father Hal, a widower. While searching an abandoned building for copper wiring to sell, Eli stumbles into the remnants of a battle. Family Film
Hardened soldiers and cutting-edge cannons are housed in the building. When the weapon's mechanism is activated, he abandons a peculiar weapon and runs away. That night, Hal is shocked to welcome home his biological son, Eli's older brother James “Jimmy.” After having a dream about the weapon, Eli goes out of his way to steal it.
On his way back, he manages to sneak back in and listen in on Hal and Jimmy's fight without being spotted. Jimmy needs Hal's help robbing Hal's company because he owes local mafia boss Taylor Balik $60,000 in protection money. After Hal's refusal, Jimmy is asked to leave the residence.
The following evening, Hal discovers Jimmy and Taylor breaking into his office safe. When Hal doesn't back down, Taylor fires and kills him. After a scuffle breaks out, Jimmy steals the money and runs away, but not before inadvertently killing Taylor's brother Dutch.
Jimmy convinces Eli that Hal has a work emergency and can't make it to Lake Tahoe, but he still wants to hang out with them. Eli stealthily packs the weapon, and just as Taylor and his gang are about to pillage the house, they escape. Taylor vows that he will kill Jimmy and Eli in retaliation for the death of his brother.

Throughout the course of the trip, the two develop a close brotherly bond. They become fast friends with one of the strippers, Milly, after Jimmy takes Eli to a club where they can see them perform. Lee, the club's owner, gathers his men to beat Jimmy senselessly after he becomes drunk and interrupts Milly's dancing performance onstage.
Eli is startled and fires a shot, accidentally breaking a pool table. Milly follows the brothers as they run, on the spur of the moment. Two masked, heavily armored individuals observe the weapon being used and give chase on motorcycles. Jimmy realizes now that he abandoned the cash bag in the nightclub. By using Milly as a guide, the brothers are able to extract the money from Lee during one of his poker games.
The friends reserve a hotel room at a Nevada casino. Milly tells Eli about her life before they met, including how she ran away from her harsh parents when she was a teenager and never had any strong relationships.
Eli watches a news broadcast regarding the murder of Hal. Suspects Eli and Jimmy are recognized and taken into custody by the authorities. As Milly watches from the crowd, Eli gestures for her to go. Now that Jimmy has been reprimanded by Eli, he is locked up.
The county police station is taken over by Taylor and his crew, who then murder all of the cops inside. Prior to his own execution, a wounded police officer helps Eli retrieve the gun from the evidence locker. Eli eliminates most of Taylor's troops, protecting Jimmy in the process. Taylor appears as Eli and Jimmy are about to surrender to the FBI, and fires at Jimmy.

The two armored pursuers finally arrive and freeze all the clocks save for their own and Eli's. A man and a lady emerge from the shadows. According to the man, Eli is from their war-torn world. To ensure his safety, Eli was hidden on this planet until he was mature enough to contribute.
The stranger tells Eli to stay with his brother, and even calls him that. The woman blocks Taylor's shot, and the two of them run away together, carrying the gun. As normal time begins again, Taylor shoots himself in the head and dies.
All three brothers have been taken into custody. Morgan Hunter, an FBI agent, tells Eli that Jimmy will be imprisoned soon; however, if he cooperates, he may not have to serve a lengthy sentence. She seems to be implying that she appreciates Jimmy looking out for Eli, who is being coy about where the weapon is. Once again, Milly appears to wave at Eli.

On August 30, 2016, it was announced that Myles Truitt, Jack Reynor, James Franco, Zo Kravitz, and Dennis Quaid would star in the film. Lionsgate paid close to $30 million for the rights to distribute Kin during the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival in September. Production kicked off on October 24, 2016, in Toronto.
