Duckworth (born June 17, 1987) is an American rapper, song composer, and producer. He has been hailed as one of the most influential rappers of his generation and one of the best ever rappers since his mainstream breakthrough in 2012 with Good Kid, M.A.A.D City.
As a part of the hip hop ensemble Black Hippy, he joins fellow Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) artists Ab-Soul, Jay Rock, and Schoolboy Q in addition to his solo endeavors.
As a teenager, Lamar released a mixtape, named Y.H.N.I.C. (Hub City Threat Minor of the Year), which attracted local notice and led to his signing with TDE, an indie record company based in Compton, California.
Overly Dedicated, his first retail album in 2010, helped him break out in the music industry. Early Life
Kendrick Lamar, better known by his stage name Kendrick Duckworth, was born in Compton, California on June 17, 1987, and began rapping in elementary school, influenced by his idols Tupac Shakur and Dr. Dre.
A few years before Lamar's birth, his parents had relocated from the south side of Chicago to Compton due to his father's gang participation and his mother's demand that they leave together.
