Raj Mehta: Jugjugg Jeeyo Shows A Mature Side Of Love!
Director Raj Mehta talks about the cast and crew on the upcoming Anil Kapoor-Varun Dhawan-Kiara Advani flick JugJugg Jeeyo.
A star-studded cast, including Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor, propelled Raj Mehta to success with his debut film, Good Newwz (2019). This time he's doing an entirely different kind of film: JugJugg Jeeyo, a family comedy starring Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, and Kiara Advani, tells the story of two generations of Kapoors who wish for divorce.
As the director of Selfie, Akshay Kumar's comedy-drama version of Prithviraj's Malayalam comedy-drama Driving Licence, Mehta discusses how to craft a family-friendly film; the “change in watching patterns after epidemic” and box office anxieties; his wish to try out action-comedy; and more. Jugjugg Jeeyo, a film by Dharma Productions and Viacom18 Studios, will hit theaters on June 24.
Even though Jug Jugg Jeeyo appears to be a fun film for the whole family, what are the difficulties of making a film with such a large ensemble cast that doesn't become monotonous?
This film was particularly challenging because you're constantly wondering what fresh twists and turns you can bring to the table regarding a family drama and a plot, and it all begins with a one-liner. You can start with that one-liner and build from there.
What if two spouses have a sperm mix-up, but their offspring are entirely different? That was the punchline in Good News. You create both amusing and vibrant scenarios, and then you try to communicate something in that context. Building from an exciting idea is more accessible if you already have one.
