Professor Jordan Peterson (born June 12, 1962) is an internationally recognized public intellectual and a well-known YouTube personality. He is also an author and professor of psychology at the University of Toronto, where he has served as an emeritus professor.

At the University of Alberta, Peterson earned his undergraduate degrees in politics and psychology. He later went on to earn his doctorate in clinical psychology at the University of Montreal, where he was born and reared.

In 1998, he returned to Canada to join the department of psychology at the University of Toronto, having previously taught and researched at Harvard University. The book that served as the foundation for many of his future lectures, Maps of Meaning: The Architecture of Belief, was released in 1999.

The study of systems of belief and meaning draws on a wide range of disciplines, including psychology, mythology, religion, literature, philosophy, and neuroscience.

Peterson made a series of YouTube videos in 2016 denouncing the Parliament of Canada's Bill C-16, which included “gender identity and expression” as a forbidden basis for discrimination in the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Criminal Code.

[a] When Peterson appeared at the University of Toronto in October 2016 discussing Bill C-16, a protester approached him and videotaped him, making it one of Peterson's most viral videos, which in turn boosted Peterson's internet reputation.

A wider critique of political correctness and identity politics was made by arguing that the measure would make the usage of particular gender pronouns “compelled speech.” His ensuing public exposure drew both praise and condemnation.

Why He Stopped Using Twitter?

Jordan Peterson is to leave Twitter, citing an “endless torrent” of attacks.

Peterson, who has more than 2.7 million Twitter followers, stopped using the site for three weeks as an “experiment” and found his life “instantly” became worse when he started using it again.

The polarising personality known for provocative beliefs made the statements after being lambasted for labeling Yumi Nu's SI cover “not attractive” and said, “authoritarian tolerance won't alter that.”

Peterson reveals in a series of tweets that he will “leave” Twitter again and publish an essay on his difficulties with the network.

“I tried not using Twitter for three weeks. My crew posted videos, etc. True relief. Reading and writing increased. Peterson noted, “I started taking it again and my life went worse almost instantaneously.”

“I've never seen so many harsh insults. I like following individuals I know, but the platform's incentive system is ridiculous.

“I advised my employees to change my password to avoid temptation, and I'm leaving. I'll write or film if I have anything to say. If the matter isn't significant enough, let it go.”

Peterson left a goodbye note but proceeded to tweet, retweeting the controversial profile “Libs of TikTok” three times.

Peterson was slammed for his tweet on Nu, the first Asian-American plus-size model on the SI cover.

John Fugelsang tweeted, “Jordan Peterson gets to judge Yumi Nu because he's so goddamn good-looking.”

“Or you just say ‘That's not for me,' and then f**k off,” wrote actor Ralph Garman.

At the time of the interview, Jordan claimed to be generating $80,000 per month through his Patreon account, which he discussed with Martin Weill in 2019. In January of this year, he took down his Patreon page.

Speaking engagements bring Jordan an average of $35,000, while his consulting firm/clinical practice brings in about $200,000 a month.

In addition, he is likely to have made a sizable amount of money from the sales of his books. Over the course of his career, he has allegedly sold around 5 million copies of his novels.

If he was making $1 per book sold, that would amount to $5 million pre-tax, but it's not clear what the actual rate is or how many copies he may have needed to sell to cover manufacturing expenses.
