On November 28, 1962, Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz was born in New York City. In addition to being a professor of physics at The College of New Jersey and Thomas Edison State University, his mother, Marian, was a teacher and educational consultant.
His ancestors came to the United States as Jews from countries such as Poland, Ukraine, and Belarus. He is one of four children.
