21 Jump Street & Early Career
Fans first learned about Johnny when he was on the TV show 21 Jump Street from 1987 to 1990. In the same year that the show ended, he got his big break when he got the title role in Tim Burton's movie Edward Scissorhands.
The two artists continued to work together for years, making movies like Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, Corpse Bride, and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. For Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Johnny was nominated for his third Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
Johnny Gets Engaged To Winona Ryder
When it came to his personal life, which was always in the news, Johnny was engaged to co-star and fellow Oscar nominee Winona Ryder from the movie Edward Scissorhands.
He asked her to be his girlfriend in 1990 and got the words “Winona Forever” tattooed on his right arm, but their relationship didn't last. From the early 1990s until 1997, he dated British model Kate Moss.
Johnny Has Two Kids With Vanessa Paradis
In the late 1990s, the actor started dating the French singer Vanessa Paradis. He had two children with her: Lily-Rose Depp, who is 22 years old, and John “Jack” Depp, who is 19 years old.
Johnny later said that having kids gave him a “real foundation, a real strong place to stand in life, in work, in everything.” You can't plan for the deep love that leads to kids. Fatherhood was not something he chose on purpose.

Where he's played Captain Jack Sparrow in five movies over ten years. Johnny played another fantasy character, Grindewald, in the Fantastic Beasts movies, which are prequels to the Harry Potter series and add to the popular franchise.
Johnny left the franchise, though, in November 2020, after a paper in the UK called him a “wife beater” and Johnny lost a libel suit against the paper.
Johnny Weds Amber Heard
In 2015, Johnny married actress Amber Heard. They met on the set of The Rum Diary in 2011. They were married for only two years before the Justice League actress filed for divorce in 2017. But that was just the beginning of a court case that would last for years.
Amber got a temporary restraining order against her ex in 2016, saying that he had hurt her physically and verbally while they were together. After they got divorced, they put out a joint statement that said, “Our relationship was intensely passionate and sometimes volatile, but it was always held together by love.”
Neither side has made false accusations against the other to make money. There was no plan to hurt anyone physically or emotionally.” In 2019, the actor sued Amber for defamation after she wrote an opinion piece about leaving an abusive relationship for The Washington Post. In 2022, the case will go to court.
