Aiko recorded “For My Brother” on her laptop before her brother Miyagi died of cancer on July 19, 2012. The song was originally intended just for her brother's ears. Unfortunately, he passed away shortly after listening to the record.

When Aiko, her daughter Namiko, and her sister Miyoko were involved in an automobile accident in Los Angeles on August 27, 2013, her daughter's father, O'Ryan, was killed. There were sutures in her mouth and on the inside of her wrist after Aiko's fall. The accident had no effect on her daughter.

Aiko and Oladipo “Dot the Genius” Omishore announced their marriage on March 16, 2016.

 Aiko filed for divorce on August 9th, 2016, alleging irreconcilable differences. In October of this year, the divorce was completed.

For $3.4 million, Jhené bought a house in Encino, California, in 2021. About nine months after that, she put the house on the market with an asking price of $3.65 million.
