Gerald Norman Springer was born on February 13, 1944, in Highgate, London, England, to a Jewish family. While people were fleeing German bombardment in the London Underground station of Highgate during World War II, he was really born there while many were sheltering from the Germans. His parents were originally from Germany and managed to flee the Nazis.
