“I'm so grateful that he's OK and alive, but he's still not in a good situation,” his mother, Mary, stated on Sunday, September 3 during a YouTube Live conversation with blogger John Yates. “He's still not back out of the woods yet, but I know he's alive.”
Paul, 40, was in danger, according to Mary, after taking a canoe-style boat out at night to the “wrong place.”
“I think it's stupid; I don't know why he would go somewhere at night by himself alone, and [they] said it might've been that place everyone was talking about that was so dangerous,” she said. “And then he freaked out and said, ‘He screwed up.'” And then he discovered a means to return to this village, so he's in some remote village somewhere.”
While the locals had been “good” to Paul, she claimed he'd been sleeping outside in a hammock and “getting eaten by bugs.”
“I'm hoping the boat picks him up tomorrow,” Mary said, explaining that Paul's friend had called her last night to go look for him. “He's hoping to get back tomorrow; that's what he told me.”
After a few hours, the father of two returned to social media with a mysterious post. After removing most of the pictures from his Instagram feed, the TLC star resorted to Instagram Stories to repost a video clip from January 2022 featuring his two young sons.

On August 31, Paul was reported missing in Brazil when his wife, Karine Stahle, posted on Instagram Stories that he “went missing.” “Prayers he is found safe.” In another Instagram Stories post, Karine reshared an April 21 post from her feed that included a shot of her praying in a church.
The following day, the 90-Day Fiancé: On September 1, the Before the 90 Days alum, 27, uploaded a series of Facebook messages allegedly between Paul and Paul's mother. Paul stated after posting his location that he “got lost” during a solo outing and “fked up bad.”
“I'm going to need a boat to get back,” he wrote. Mary then continued to contact Paul's international friends, sending her son's final message at about 1:38 a.m. before the contact was cut off. The message exchange included audio calls at 7:18 a.m. and 1:55 p.m., but there was no response.

After posting an homage to Paul on social media, the mother of two raised the possibility that he had died. The film featured images and video footage of the couple and their two sons, Pierre, 4, and Ethan, 2. It was set to Kyle Hume's song “If I Would Have Known.”
Karine captioned the video with a broken heart emoji, “Not all of our memories were bad.” You were adored by our children. We will never forget you or the excellent times we had together.”
