In a formal announcement, Lucasfilm Games has confirmed that a new Indiana Jones game is currently in development at Wolfenstein developer MachineGames, with Bethesda Game Studios' Todd Howard serving as executive producer on the project.
Right now, we know very little about the upcoming Indiana Jones game, including its official title, which remains a mystery. In addition, now that Microsoft has acquired Bethesda's parent company ZeniMax Media, we have no confirmation on the story, when we will be able to play it, or which platforms it will be available on. But StarWars.com, Lucasfilm's official news outlet, has given us a break by revealing that the game will be a “original, standalone tale set at the height of the career of the famed adventurer” according to the website.
It may not be much, but it is sufficient to pique our interest. Interested in learning more? Then continue reading to find out everything we know about the upcoming Indiana Jones video game.
Indiana Jones Game Release Date
Although there is no word on when we will be able to play the new Indiana Jones game, we anticipate that it will be a few years before we do.
Bethesda has already stated that “it'll be some time before we have more to reveal,” which isn't particularly surprising given that the company is currently working on both Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 at the same time. We don't expect the game to be released until at least 2022, though we're hoping to learn more about it before the end of the year is up.
In light of the recent acquisition of Zenimax by Microsoft, we expect the new Indiana Jones game to be released on PC and Xbox Series X/S – although specific platforms have not yet been confirmed – as well as the Xbox 360.
Is there a trailer?
In January 2021, Bethesda released a teaser trailer on Twitter that officially announced the new Indiana Jones game, though it contained more Easter eggs than actual gameplay details. The trailer begins with a pan across a desk cluttered with books, a camera, and papers, before settling on Dr Henry ‘Indiana' Jones, Jr.'s iconic fedora and whip at the end. There isn't much information to go on, but it is enough to get us excited (and there does seem to be some clues littered in it). Take a look at it for yourself:
