Fans of Deadliest Catch were surprised to discover about Kochutin's death in April 2022, given that he had died over a year before.
Details of his death remain hazy at this time, but we do know that it occurred after he incurred injuries while aboard the F/V Patricia Lee.

According to PEOPLE, in the video, crew members learned that one of their own required medical attention, and Captain Sig Hansen later stated that someone may have been crushed by a crab pot, which can weigh up to 800 pounds.
Hansen described the encounter as a “scary, frightening thought.”
The medic on board stated that the injured party, later identified as Kochutin, was in “a lot of pain.”

Kochutin was an avid fisherman who spent his summers and winters gathering crabs and capturing fish.
According to his obituary, the Bering Sea was a “very special place” to him.
He died doing what he loved, although he didn't appear to have any direct family members when he died.
His parents, brother, and sister predeceased him, and there was no mention of a wife or child in his obituary.
