The crew member who died in May 2019 stated from infancy that her favorite national park is Yellowstone. She described her century-old horse, Mahogany, on Facebook as “my beautiful, amazing girl.”
How did Melanie Olmstead Die?
Olmstead is reportedly married and has three children with his wife. Mahogany, her horse, was also hers. Outside of her work on films and television shows, nothing is known about Olmstead's life.
She began working in the film and television industries in the year 2000 and had a roughly twenty-year career. Olmstead also used her Facebook profile to raise awareness about environmental issues. She died on May 25, 2019, at the age of 50, in her hometown of Salt Lake City, Utah.
A cause of death for Olmstead was not made public at the time of his death. Several media publications, however, have reported that Olmstead was suffering from a sickness for more than two years before dying of it.

Some thought that Olmstead was afflicted with cancer. On the other hand, less trustworthy reports state that Olmstead died in a vehicle accident or from poisoning. As of this writing, the specific cause of death is unknown.
‘Yellowstone's' second season finale is devoted to her memory. On July 30, 2019, a memorial service was conducted to honor Olmstead's life. Friends and family members rode horses to honor Olmstead and her love of animals, particularly horses.
