In his first year at Hogwarts, Harry is given his own invisibility cloak. This cloak was an heirloom passed down through the Potter family for generations. Moody's vision is capable of seeing through any object, including Invisibility Cloaks. However, because Harry's cloak is one of the Deathly Hallows, Moody's eye is supposed to contain rare and powerful magic.
How Did Mad-Eye Moody Die?
Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody is one of the most skilled Aurors in the wizarding world, and he devised the Seven Potters' plan to keep Harry safe throughout his journey from Dudley's home to the Burrow.
Voldemort and his Death Eaters appeared on the scene, as expected, to try to assassinate Harry at this vulnerable time.
Out of the seven persons accompanying one of the seven Potters (including talented wizards such as Remus Lupin and Kingsley Shackelbolt), the Dark Lord pursued Mad-Eye Moody, whom he considered was most suited to keep Harry safe.
Mundungus Fletcher, on the other hand, betrayed the gang and fled the scene. Moody was taken off guard by Mundungus' betrayal, giving Voldemort enough time to cast the Avada Kedavra and kill Mad-Eye Moody.
Moody's body sadly fell from his broom after he was ruthlessly murdered by Lord Voldemort. In Deathly Hallows: Part 2, Moody, who was also prepared for any form of dangerous event, became the first casualty.
Mad-Eye Moody's death was solely the result of a betrayal, which makes it all the more terrifying. Moody's death, however, is ironically the product of his own talent. Voldemort, one of history's most powerful wizards, chose him to be the wizard with the greatest ability to defend Harry Potter.
How Was Mad-Eye Moody Portrayed in Harry Potter?
While the manner in which Moody died was not portrayed, the events leading up to his death may have provided an opportunity to show Moody in an aerial battle and demonstrate his fighting prowess.
In reality, had this moment been presented, it could have revealed that it wasn't a lack of competence that killed Moody, but rather his confidence in someone who betrayed them, similar to how Peter Pettigrew deceived the Potters.

Alastor Moody was one of the best magicians of his time, but he didn't get much of a chance to show it in the movies. But, had he been given the chance, even in his final moments, he could've demonstrated how his reputation preceded him.
Instead, Mad-Eye's demise off-screen felt unfitting for such a strong figure. Moody deserved a chance to shine before his end, especially since he died protecting Harry and providing the wizarding world a second chance.
