How Did Goonew Die?
Goonew died on Friday, March 18, 2022, after receiving life-threatening injuries in a shooting in a District Heights, MD, parking lot. The following day, he was confirmed dead at a Prince George's County hospital, according to the Sun.
“Officers responded to the area at [approximately] 5:40 p.m. for a report of a shooting.” When they arrived, they discovered an adult male with a gunshot wound. The victim was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the Prince George's Police Department, as reported by the Sun. “At [approximately] 7:30 p.m., the victim was pronounced dead.”
“All he wanted to do was try to get his family out of the hood,” Patrice Morrow, Goonew's mother, told WUSA9. “He had a heart that was bigger than his body.” They took me when they took him.”
With songs like “No Diss” and a variety of collaborations, Goonew established himself as a talented musician.
Pitchfork and the Washington Post praised Goonew's whispery delivery and timeless sound, and he established himself as a famous rapper with songs like “What It Was” and “Drip & Ice.” His collaborations with Lil Dude, XanMan, and others helped him gain a lot of attention.
On Sunday, April 3, 2022, Goonew's funeral was conducted at the Bliss Nightclub in Washington, D.C. The funeral drew a lot of attention after a video of it went viral on the internet.
