Who was Edna Schmidt?
Edna Schmidt was a journalist who worked on Noticiero Univision Edición Nocturna as a news anchor. She was of Puerto Rican heritage and covered the September 11th attacks in New York City, the anthrax scare, and the execution of Oklahoma bomber Timothy McVeigh.
Schmidt was born in Manhattan, New York City after her parents relocated from Puerto Rico. Schmidt attended college after finishing her primary and secondary education and majoring in journalism.
How did Edna Schmidt Die?
The official cause of death for Edna Schmidt has yet to be revealed. She was ruled brain dead following a fall in Puerto Rico, according to Primer Impacto, a Univision News show. However, neither her family nor any official sources have corroborated this fact.
Some media publications suspected that Edna Schmidt's death was caused by her drinking, which she publicly admitted to in 2014. In an interview with Univision Chicago, she stated that she began drinking heavily following the tragic loss of her fiancé in 2011.
She also claimed that she felt misled by her coworkers, which led to her departure from Univision in 2011 and Telemundo in 2013.

Edna Schmidt stated that she was seeking therapy for her addiction and wished to return to journalism. She did, however, concede that it was a challenging and ongoing process. She admitted that she had relapsed multiple times and that drinking had cost her everything.
