Fans of TLC's ‘Unpolished' received terrible news from the show's star, Bri Martone, in May 2020, when she turned to Instagram to announce the death of her father, Big Mike Martone.
Big Mike Martone grabbed many fans' hearts during Season 1 of the show. However, Season 2 began with a shock as they learned of his death. Jennifer, Bria, and Lexi Martone opened up about his loss on the show, reflecting on how their lives have altered.
How Did Unpolished’s Big Mike Die?
Big Mike died of cancer, according to the show. “Big Mike began to feel ill a few months ago,” Jennifer stated. “We weren't sure what was wrong with him—we thought it was his heart, but we didn't know.” So he went to the heart doctor, who ran some blood tests and admitted him right away. They ran a few tests, and the findings revealed that it was cancer.”
Jennifer disclosed Big Mike had no idea how horrible things were. “Cancer took its toll on him,” she explained. To make matters worse, Bria and Lexi did not spend enough time with him.
“Unfortunately, we didn't really get to see our dad as much as we would have liked because of quarantine,” she said. Bria, on the other hand, indicated that she tries to remember the happy times she had with him. In February, Big Mike was diagnosed with cancer. On May 9, 2020, he passed away.
The family admitted that everything happened swiftly. Jennifer regrets not allowing her kid to meet him. The family is currently relieved that Big Mike is in a better place.
What Jennifer Martone Said on Husband Big Mike's Death?
Jennifer, Bria, and Lexi all discuss Big Mike's death, which occurred after he was diagnosed with cancer in February, in PEOPLE's exclusive sneak peek at Tuesday's season 2 premiere of Unpolished.
“So this has been a really tough year for our family,” Jennifer explains. “The COVID-19 pandemic closed the salon and Big Mike's business, and the worst part is that Big Mike got really sick.” It was a truly terrible period.”

Jennifer continues by revealing that he has stage 4 cancer. “We started treatments, but I don't think Mike knew how sick he really was,” she adds of her late husband, who passed away on May 9. “The cancer took a toll on him.”

Big Mike died just four months before he was supposed to escort Bria down the aisle. Bria went on with her wedding despite her enormous loss and the pandemic restrictions. On September 12, 2020, she married Matt Mancuso.
