House of Dragons-After two years since the Game of Thrones finale went down like a lead balloon, Westeros is finally back.
The 10-episode House of the Dragon, based on George R. R. Martin's 2018 novel Fire and Blood, will take place 200 years before the events of the original series and will explain the Targaryen dynasty's beginnings.
In 2022, HBO in the United States and Sky Atlantic in the United Kingdom will launch the much-awaited series. (Or, by that moment, HBO Max in both areas).
Because HBO released public information about its main cast of characters and performers ahead of leaks, we already know a lot about House of the Dragon, and we'll go through everything we know about the show so far, from its current trailer to its estimated launch date, down below.
What is it all about, exactly?
House of Dragons-The series is based on George R.R. Martin's “Fire & Blood,” and covers the saga of House Targaryen 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones.
When it will be available:
According to the first teaser trailer, House of the Dragon will be published in 2022. However, there is no scheduled date for its release. “House of the Dragon is the only one shooting,” HBO's Casey Boys previously stated of the spinoffs. There will be one on the air by 2022.
What's going on in the background?
Martin and Ryan Condal will co-create the series (Colony, Hercules).
House of Dragons-Along with Martin, Vince Gerardis, Sara Lee Hess, and Ron Schmidt, showrunners Miguel Sapochnik and Condal will serve as executive producers.
Sapochnik won Emmys and DGAs for his work on Game of Thrones “Battle of the Bastards,” which he directed six times. He was nominated for another Emmy in 2019 for directing “The Long Night,” and he won the Emmy for Best Drama Series as an executive producer for the final season.
Clare Kilner (The Alienist: Angel of Darkness, The Wedding Date) and Geeta V. Patel (The Alienist: Angel of Darkness, The Wedding Date) will both direct the series (Meet the Patels, The Witcher). Greg Yaitanes (Banshee, House) is on board as director and co-executive producer.
Ramin Djawadi, who previously worked on Game of Thrones and Westworld, will compose the music for the series.
What role will they play?
House of Dragons-Paddy Considine portrays King Viserys Targaryen. The lords of Westeros selected Viserys to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, during the Great Council of Harrenhal. Viserys is a nice, caring, and honest guy who just wants to carry on his grandfather's legacy, but as Game of Thrones has shown, good men don't often make good kings.
Olivia Cooke portrays Alicent Hightower. She is the daughter of Otto Hightower, the King's Hand, and the most beautiful lady in the Seven Kingdoms. She grew raised in the Red Keep, close to the king and his inner circle, and she has courtly charm as well as political acumen.
Emma D'Arcy portrays Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. The king's firstborn son or daughter. She is a Valyrian dragon rider with pure Valyrian blood. Many people say Rhaenyra was born with all she needed… On the other hand, she was not born as a man.
Matt Smith portrays Prince Daemon Targaryen. King Viserys' younger brother and heir to the throne, Daemon, is an unrivalled warrior and dragon rider who possesses the true dragon blood. When a Targaryen is born, however, it is said that the gods toss a coin in the air…
Steve Toussaint portrays Lord Corlys Velaryon, also known as “The Sea Snake.” The most renowned marine explorer in Westeros is “The Sea Snake,” the ruler of House Velaryon, a Valyrian house as old as House Targaryen. He turned his residence into a powerful seat even wealthy than the Lannisters, with the world's greatest navy.
Eve Best portrays Princess Rhaenys Velaryon. The Great Council passed aside “The Queen Who Never Was,” a dragon rider and the wife of Lord Corlys Velaryon, as successor to the throne because the realm preferred her cousin, Viserys, just because he was male.
Otto Hightower, the Monarch's Hand, is played by Rhys Ifans, and he is loyal to both his king and his kingdom. According to the Hand, the largest threat to the country is the king's brother, Daemon, and his standing as heir to the throne.
Sonoya Mizuno portrays Maria. She came to Westeros with nothing, has been sold more times than she can count, and could have withered… Instead, she ascended through the ranks to become Prince Daemon Targaryen's most loyal — and unlikely — companion.
Fabien Frankel portrays Ser Criston Cole. Ser Criston is of Dornish ancestry and is the common-born son of the Lord of Blackhaven's steward. He doesn't have any property or titles to his name; all he has is his honour and incredible swordsmanship.
Rhaenyra Targaryen, the Young Princess, is played by Milly Alcock. She is the king's firstborn child, a pure Valyrian dragon rider. Many people say Rhaenyra was born with all she needs…but she wasn't born a man.
Emily Carey will portray Alicent Hightower, the daughter of Otto Hightower, the King's Hand, and the most beautiful lady in the Seven Kingdoms. Alice grew raised in the Red Keep, close to the king and his inner circle, and she exudes courtly charm as well as political acumen.
Ryan Corr portrays Ser Harwin ‘Breakbones' Strong. Harwin is reputed to be the most powerful man in the Seven Kingdoms. Ser Harwin is the eldest son of Master of Laws Lyonel Strong and the heir of Harrenhal.
Jefferson Hall portrays Lord Jason Lannister and Tyland Lannister. Jason is the Lord of Casterly Rock. Tyland Lannister is a skilled politician with a sharp understanding of when to act.
David Horovitch portrays Grand Maester Mellos. He is a trusted advisor to King Viserys and a voice of reason.
Graham McTavish portrays Ser Harrold Westerling. Ser Harrold has served in the Kingsguard since the time of King Jaehaerys, and he is a paragon of valour and honour.
Matthew Needham portrays Larys Strong. Lyonel Strong's younger son is brought to court by his father, Lyonel Strong, Master of Laws.
Bill Paterson plays Lord Lyman Beesbury, Lord of Honeyholt and Master of Coin, on King Viserys' tiny council.
Gavin Spokes is Lord Lyonel Strong. He is the Master of Laws and Lord of Harrenhal for King Viserys.
