Disney has officially set a release date for the much-anticipated sequel, Hocus Pocus 2, which means that it will be in theatres just in time for Halloween this year.
The news that the sequel will be available on Disney+ on September 30 was shared with attendees of the company’s upfronts conference in May 2022. In the sequel, which is released about thirty years after the first movie in the series, the Sanderson Sisters are shown returning to Salem, Massachusetts, in order to cause further devastation there.
We are still waiting for a trailer to drop, but in the meanwhile, we have been given our first glance at the returning sisters and a quick glimpse of them in action. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy are all set to reprise their legendary roles from the first film.
Anne Fletcher took up the directing duties for the sequel, which was written by Jen D’Angelo. Initially, Adam Shankman was slated to helm the project; but, due to Shankman’s work on Disenchanted, a scheduling problem prevented him from doing so. Shankman will continue his involvement with the production in the role of executive producer.
Filming was completed by the end of January 2022, so if there are no unforeseen setbacks, everything appears to be on schedule for the sequel to cast its spell on us later this year.
We cannot wait to see what the Sanderson Sisters have in store for us when they make their comeback, but in the meanwhile, here is all you need to know about the upcoming film Hocus Pocus 2.

Hocus Pocus 2 Cast
Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, who play Winifred, Sarah, and Mary Sanderson, all but guaranteed their return for the sequel in October 2020.
Even though we had to wait until May 2021 for an official announcement before we knew for sure that the witchy three would be making another appearance, it just wouldn’t have been the same without them.
As a result of schedule problems, we won’t be seeing Thora Birch back on the show as Dani Dennison. Omri Katz and Vinessa Shaw, who played Max and Allison, have yet to confirm their return.
Katz addressed the question of whether or not the original cast members will be returning in March 2022: “Today, I’ve talked to a number of fans who are clearly upset that we aren’t participating. However, I may be telling the truth. Every single one of us is on board! Then then, perhaps we aren’t. We could be!”
Sam Richardson, the star of Veep, has been cast in the sequel, although we don’t know who he’ll be playing yet. He’s been joking that he’s just as obsessed with Hocus Pocus as we are.
To work with the females is “external to me,” he said, according to ET. “‘This is them!’ I exclaim. I have a grin on my face because the Sanderson Sisters are working their spells and I’m watching them.”
Following in the footsteps of Veep co-star Richardson, Disney announced the additions of Ted Lasso and Game of Thrones actor Hannah Waddingham to the cast of the sequel on Halloween.
It’s evident that Waddingham, like Richardson, is a Hocus Pocus enthusiast just as much as the rest of us are.
“In Rhode Island, the second assistant director told me that ‘all the ladies would like to meet you as soon as I arrived for my fitting. Actually, my jaw fell on the floor. Then I joined them in their fancy dress. Shirley Jones Phillips (SJP), Bette Midler (Kathy Najimy), “She told Variety.
“I sat and watched while they ate their lunch in their full regalia. When I was in the room, it seemed like a competition where I was going to have to leave and then pay someone £1,000 or whatever.”
Hale appears to be playing Salem mayor Jefry Trask inset images, although Disney has not confirmed this.
Billy Butcherson, Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, and Belisa Escobedo will reprise their roles as Becca, Cassie, and Izzy correspondingly in the upcoming season of The Sanderson Sisters.
On the final day of filming for Peak and Escobedo, Buckingham shared a set shot of the trio on Instagram. She stated, “These last four months have been some of the wildest and most fantastic of my whole life.”
Hocus Pocus 2 Plot
After the formal announcement in May 2021, we learned what to expect from the sequel’s storyline for the first time.
In modern-day Salem, the Sanderson Sisters have returned, and three young women must find out how to stop them from inflicting new havoc on the world.
Poppy, her best buddy Travis, and Isabella, a girl Poppy has a crush on, were the focus of a novel sequel released in July 2018 titled Poppy, Isabella, and Travis.
Poppy goes into the Sanderson mansion during a blood moon in order to impress Isabella and accidently revives the sisters. Even if this happens in the following movie, it’s uncertain if it’ll be canon.
Hocus Pocus 2 Release Date
As was just indicated, it has been established that the second installment of Hocus Pocus will debut on Disney+ on September 30, 2022.
The shooting of the sequel began in Rhode Island on October 18, 2021, and continued until late January of the following year. Therefore, at this point, all we can do is wait for Hocus Pocus 2 to be released, but in the meanwhile, if you want to fill the witchy-shaped hole in your life, you can always watch the first movie again on Disney Plus.
Hocus Pocus 2 Trailer
Even though production on the sequel has wrapped, we expect to have to wait a few more months before seeing a Hocus Pocus 2 teaser.
Disney+’s 2022 teaser has at least one full second of film, so you could watch it on repeat for now.
As of September 30, Disney+ will stream Hocus Pocus 2, while the original film may be seen right now on the Disney+ website.
