If you want a big dose of childhood nostalgia, you've probably been really into the BBC's adaptation of His Dark Materials. His Dark Materials, a fantasy show based on the same-named books by Philip Pullman, got its third season on the BBC and HBO over the weekend.
Even though the third season just came out, people already want a fourth season. His Dark Materials is the newest fantasy TV show. It is based on the books by Philip Pullman and has three seasons. After watching all 8 episodes of this third season, you might be wondering if it will continue or if it has been canceled. Here’s what we know:
His Dark Materials Season 4: Renewed or Canceled?
As of December 29, 2022, we can officially tell fans that there won't be a fourth season of the show. The entire storyline has been told in the first three seasons, which have been well-received by critics and fans around the world.
Also, if you remember, the third season of the show, which premiered on HBO in the US on Sunday, December 25, 2022, was confirmed to be the last season of the show.
When Will His Dark Materials Season 4 Come Out?
Again, we won't know anything about a release date until season four is confirmed. Still, even if a different sequel is announced, we think it will take a while to make, so we probably won't see this one until at least 2024.
What is Season 3 of His Dark Materials About?
If you haven't read the books, the story here is about Lyra and Will being thrown right into the middle of the drama as Asriel plans to call on Metatron, a figure from the Angelic Authority. He wants to fight this spirit-like being and get as many other races on his side as possible.
While this is going on, Lyra is pushed into fulfilling her destiny without knowing it. She goes on a dangerous quest after being with Mrs. Coulter, who becomes a much more interesting and well-rounded character this year.
The story builds up to a few dramatic last chapters that end this book on a high note. They tie up all the loose ends of the plot and do a good job of ending Lyra and Will's stories on a sad note.
What Have the Cast Said About the Fourth Season of His Dark Materials?
Dafne Keen, who plays Lyra, has (unfortunately) spoken out about His Dark Materials ending after three seasons, stating, “I'm honestly extremely upset that it's ending,” according to The Express.
“I'm sorry because of the individuals I've worked with, especially because I've been working with the same crew and cast for the previous five years or so. And it's incredibly heartbreaking to think that I'd return every year and spend eight months with them in Cardiff. I'm not going to do [that] any longer.”
Who Could Appear in the Fourth Season of His Dark Materials?
Before we can acquire a cast list, we'll need season four to really happen. Nonetheless, we anticipate seeing our favorite cast members in future installments. So, that's:
- Dafne Keen as Lyra Belacqua
- Amir Wilson as Will Parry
- Ruth Wilson as Marisa Coulter
- James McAvoy as Lord Asriel Belacqua
- Lin-Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby
- Ruta Gedmintas as Serafina Pekkala
- Jade Anouka as Ruta Skadi
- Simone Kirby as Mary Malone
- Will Keen as Father MacPhail
- Kit Connor as Lyra’s daemon Pan
