If season two is ordered, it simply would not be the same program we know and love without Kit Connor reprising his role as Nick and Joe Locke's character like Charlie.
As the couple begins to announce their love openly, they will be backed by their closest friends, Elle (played by Yasmin Finney) and Tao (played by Tao Chen) (William Gao).
Olivia Colman, who played Nick's supporting mother in the last episode, is also expected to return. She learned in that episode that her son was bisexual and in love with Charlie.
Fisayo Akinade will reprise his role as Mr. Ajayi, the teacher who allowed Charlie and Nick to spend time in his classroom during breaks away from prying eyes as Nick came to grips with his sexuality. Mr. Ajayi is a character from the first season of Charlie and Nick.
However, it's unlikely that everything will be perfect since Sebastian Croft's Ben Hope — Charlie's secret ex who is openly gay and bullying – will most certainly be present to stir havoc.
Rhea Norwood is expected to round out the ensemble as Imogen, Nick's ex-girlfriend has a thing for him despite his love for Charlie.

Nick has finally admitted to his mother that he is gay and is ready to refer to Charlie as his lover. It remains to be seen how the rest of the school will respond when they discover its existence.
Ben is unlikely to be pleased with this development since he has grown to feel a sense of ownership over Charlie despite his refusal to acknowledge it. It appears to be much more severe now that Charlie has gone on. Because of his coming out, Charlie revealed that he had been battling mental health, and Alice Osman confirmed to Digital Spy that this is something we will likely see more of in the future.
According to her, “If we do get future seasons, I'll want to incorporate themes of mental health into the show” since “that's incredibly essential in the novels,” she explained.
“One of the most challenging aspects of creating Heartstopper was discussing the more profound subjects while maintaining an upbeat and cheerful tone. That has been the most difficult part of the writing process for me.
“However, I want to believe that it is conceivable. I feel like I've accomplished my goal in the books. My ability to be open and honest about mental health, and to explore it genuinely, has allowed me to avoid creating anything that is triggering or extremely dark and unpleasant to read or see. Thus, that is a major part of my purpose for the program.”
