The siblings are spending their summer break at their uncle's house in the Bay Area, after traveling from their Piedmont, California, home. Uncle Stan runs a tourist trap called the “Mystery Shack,” and Dipper and Mabel Pines work there.
They're both surprised by how peculiar Gravity Falls is. Dipper stumbles upon a curious journal during his foray through the woods, but he has no idea what it says. In reading the diary, they learn that the town is plagued by ghosts and other paranormal beings.
In the first season, we follow Dipper and Mabel as they, together with Soos (a buddy of Dipper's), and Wendy Corduroy (an employee at “Mystery Shack”) (a company Dipper enjoys), go on a mission to root out the evil in town and eradicate it.
Dipper and Mabel finally got their uncle's house back from Gideon at the end of the first season. Grunkle Stan ended up with all three journals. Season 2 picked up directly where Season 1 left off. At the beginning of the second season, everyone was thrilled by the return of Mystery Shack.
Dipper, Mabel, Soos, and Wendy spend the first part of the second season looking for the author of the diaries that have been discovered in the Gravity Falls forest, while Stan looks for the strange doorway beneath his Mystery Shack.
Dipper and his friends have spent the last few episodes battling Bill Cipher, a bizarre dream demon with immense power who wants to rule the world. Weirdmageddon 3: Take Back The Falls is the concluding installment in the series.
In the end, Dipper and Mabel rally the citizens of the town to take on Bill Cipher and his army and rid the world of Bill's wackiness.

The third season of Gravity Falls is not in the works, as Alex Hirsch has already stated. Dipper and Mabel, having finished their second season, said their goodbyes to beloved Grunkle Stan and headed back to California.
The show's primary antagonist, Bill Cipher, is dead and won't return unless the producers explicitly say so. The three journals have been found, and the portal beneath Grunkle Stan's Mystery Shack has been located.
