Grant Wahl Cause of Death: Grant Wahl, a prominent American journalist, died in Qatar after falling while covering the World Cup, causing shock and grief around the sports world. A witness informed CNN that he “collapsed” while covering the Argentina-Netherlands match on Friday.
The World Cup organizers in Qatar announced on Saturday that Wahl “felt sick” in the press area and received “urgent medical attention on site.” According to a representative for the Supreme Court Committee for Delivery and Legacy, the entity in charge of organizing the tournament, he was subsequently moved to Hamad General Hospital.

Prior to his death, the legendary sports writer revealed on a recent episode of his podcast, Ftbol with Grant Wahl, that he suffered bronchitis while covering the World Cup.”Even after the US [team] was defeated, my body informed me, ‘Dude, you're not sleeping enough.'
It rebelled against me “He disclosed. He stated that he had twice attended a doctor at the World Cup media center and was beginning to feel better. While bronchitis may have played a role in Grant's death, no official cause of death has been revealed.

Eric, Grant's brother, believes Grant was targeted because he was wearing a Gay Pride shirt in Qatar, a country whose severe anti-LGBTQ+ policies have made headlines throughout the World Cup. International attendees wearing rainbow apparel have been denied admittance and accosted by locals.
Grant described his own ordeal on Twitter, writing that “security kept him for 25 minutes for wearing a T-shirt promoting LGBTQ rights, forcibly grabbed his phone, and furiously requested that he remove his T-shirt to enter the stadium.”Eric took to Instagram to broadcast a video in which he stated that he believes his brother was murdered on purpose for demonstrating his support.

Though the video has since been removed, Fox Sports stated that Eric added, “Because I am gay, he wore the rainbow shirt to the World Cup. My brother was fine; he had informed me he had received death threats. I can't believe my brother died just now. I feel he was murdered, and I plead for any assistance.”
“We're still investigating [what happened],” Eric added. “According to Celine [Grant's wife], he fainted at the stadium, was given CPR, was rushed to the hospital by Uber and died. Celine has spoken with Ron Klain and the White House, and we have now spoken with the State Department.”
