Get Excited For Sonic the Hedgehog 2

The filming of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has ended, and if the fact that the original film was really rather fantastic wasn't enough to get us excited, one smart stroke of casting certainly has. Idris Elba was revealed to voice classic Sonic character Knuckles in the sequel back in August. We're still waiting to hear if Tails will have a similarly famous name attached to him, but we're excited to see how Idris Elba handles the job.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a superhero comedy film based on the Sega video game series of the same name. It's the sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog, and it's directed by Jeff Fowler again, with Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington writing the screenplay.

Story Behind its Making

By April 2020, Marsden had shown interest in a sequel that would include various characters from the video games, including Tails, who made an appearance in the original film's mid-credits sequence. Director Jeff Fowler also indicated interest in working on a sequel that would centre on Sonic and Tails' bond while also expanding on Dr.

Robotnik. Later that month, Schwartz stated that the COVID-19 epidemic made it reasonable for Paramount Pictures not to have announced a sequel by that time, and that he was interested in a sequel with Tails and a more game-accurate representation of Robotnik.

Earlier that month, Sonic the Hedgehog co-writer Pat Casey said that conversations for a sequel had begun, despite the fact that the picture had not yet been greenlit by Paramount. Carrey was also interested in wearing a fat suit in a sequel to more accurately mimic Robotnik's look in the computer game, according to him.

Casey also mentioned that a sequel may include Sonic's “Super Sonic” form and the Chaos Emeralds from the video games, as well as a wish to add Knuckles the Echidna, whose presence was hinted at in the original film's opening prologue with the echidna tribe.

Jim Carrey expressed interest in starring in a sequel on January 27, 2020, believing that his character, the villain Dr. Robotnik, could be developed further in the sequel: “I'd be interested in doing another one because it was so much fun, and it was a real challenge to persuade people that I have a triple-digit IQ. Robotnik hasn't yet reached his apotheosis, therefore there's plenty of room.” James Marsden, the hero of Sonic the Hedgehog, stated on March 6, 2020 that he has signed up for many sequels.

Tika Sumpter confirmed on January 26, 2021 that she will resume her role as Maddie Wachowski. In March 2021, it was revealed that Ben Schwartz and Jim Carrey will reprise their roles as Sonic and Robotnik, respectively. In April 2021, it was announced that James Marsden will reprise his role as Tom Wachowski. On June 16, 2021, Shemar Moore was revealed as joining the cast in an unspecified role. On August 10, 2021, it was revealed that Idris Elba has joined the cast as Knuckles the Echidna's voice actor.

A blue hedgehog with human features and the ability to sprint at supersonic speeds. After defeating his arch-nemesis, Dr. Robotnik, in the first film, Sonic settles down on Earth with Tom and Maddie as a new member of the Wachowski family. Sonic meets Tails while Tom and Maddie are on vacation and sets out on a quest to retrieve the emerald of immense power before Robotnik and Knuckles can.

An anthropomorphic red echidna who is a diligent treasure seeker, but is also naive. Knuckles is an experienced powerful fighter with tremendous strength and the ability to glide and scale walls, despite his violent and short-tempered attitude. After being duped into joining Eggman, he travels to Earth in search of a powerful emerald.

A mad scientist and Sonic's arch-nemesis, whose objective was to capture Sonic and utilise his super-speed to rule the world, but who was destroyed by the blue hedgehog and had all proof of his existence obliterated by the US government. He vows to return to Earth, exact revenge on Sonic, and realise his newfound goals of global domination, now that he has been stuck on the mushroom planet for over three months. Eggman hooks up with Knuckles to discover the emerald, knowing full well that he is merely using him to accomplish his objective.

Wrapping Up

The sequel will be released in May 2020, following the success of the first film and ambitions for a film series. Filming takes occur in Vancouver and Hawaii from March to June 2021. Paramount Pictures, in collaboration with Sega Sammy Group, will distribute Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in the United States on April 8, 2022.
