Get Excited for Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Diary of a Wimpy Kid, based on Jeff Kinney's globally successful series of novels, has premiered on Disney Plus. It follows Greg Heffley, the eponymous “Wimpy Kid,” as he struggles to get through middle school and all of its problems. In Disney Plus' “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” the constant problems of a prepubescent protagonist are playfully placed at the centre.

After a successful run of four live-action films based on Jeff Kinney's popular book series, director Swinton Scott reboots the franchise as an animated film, and while the wholesome-minded product feels a little redundant at times, it establishes its own identity, occasionally outperforming its cinematic predecessor enough to make it a worthwhile watch.

Let's See the Making of Diary of a Wimpy Kid

The chances of a fourth live-action picture following the release of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days were small. Jeff Kinney, the creator of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid novels, revealed in 2012 that the next part, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever, will be adapted into an animated feature.

Kinney said that he was working with Fox on a half-hour special based on Cabin Fever in an interview for Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck, which was set to debut in late 2014. The special was supposed to be an animated production created by 20th Century Fox Animation, and it was in the works while Kinney was working on live-action movies. During production, however, the idea was changed from a special to an animated series.

The project was revealed to be continuing in development exclusively for streaming on Disney+ in August 2019, following Disney's acquisition of 21st Century Fox. At the 2020 Disney Investor Day event, the project was reported to have been revamped as an animated reboot feature picture simply named Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Along with this statement, it was confirmed that filming had begun, with a potential release date of mid-2020. The film was set to be released on December 3, 2021, and it was confirmed in September 2021 that it would be an adaptation of the first novel in the series.
