Earlier this year, the video game FAR: Lone Sails was released, allowing players to take on the role of a survivor attempting to drive their vehicle through a dusty, post-apocalyptic environment. The game, which was developed by the Swiss company Okomotive and published by Mixtvision, is a side-scrolling adventure that players will enjoy.
FAR: Lone Sails was released for the PC, the PlayStation 4, the Nintendo Switch, the Xbox One, and mobile devices on October 26th, 2018. The game now has a sequel, FAR: Changing Tides, which is published by Frontier Foundry and aims to shake things up a little bit in terms of gameplay. The tone of the first game will be maintained in the sequel, but players will be required to drive a new vehicle through aquatic environments.
Far: Changing Tides Release Date
In a recent announcement, Don Schmocker, the co-founder and lead artist at Okomotive, stated that FAR: Changing Tides will be released on March 1, 2022, for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The game will be available for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. He went on to say that the game will be a vehicular adventure that will follow a young boy named Toe as he travels across a flooded, post-apocalyptic world on his ship, as well as other characters.
According to Schmocker, the developers at Okomotive received a plethora of positive player feedback regarding how FAR: Lone Sails' “meditative, reflective nature” resonated with them during the development process. As a result, the developers wanted to maintain that atmosphere in the sequel while also changing things up a little bit. According to the creators, the sequel will provide players with a more “thought-provoking experience” that they will enjoy in the new game.

Schmocker stated that Okomotive wanted to broaden the scope of the setting by including elements such as stormy weather and new locations such as submerged cities in the second installment. With this new environment, the developers hope to provide both existing and new players with an engaging experience that includes new puzzles and ship mechanics to master. To travel through this new setting, players will use Toe's ship, which is equipped with sails, oars, and an engine, as well as other new vehicles in the game.
Far: Changing Tides Plot
Changing Tides will not be told to players, as it was in the first game, but will have to be discovered by them. Okomotive wrote the majority of the story and world-building for the sequel during pre-production, allowing the developers to design the environments in conjunction with the story. This game takes an approach to environmental storytelling that is similar to that of games such as Hyper Light Drifter.
The game's hidden story, according to Schmocker, will be revealed through the discovery of sunken treasures, buildings, victims of the floods, and other relics from the game's past. All of these items will have a story to tell in the game, and the goal is for players to feel a strong connection to the game's world as a result of their interactions with it. The flooded environment also introduces a new level of verticality to the gameplay, as players' journeys will take them both above and below the surface of the water throughout the game.
