What is the Fairy Tail all about?

Numerous guilds exist in the realm of Earth-land, where wizards use their power to fulfil paid work requests. Natsu Dragneel, a Fairy Tail guild Dragon Slayer wizard, searches the Kingdom of Fiore for his lost adoptive father, the dragon Igneel. During his voyage, he meets Lucy Heartfilia, a young heavenly magician, and encourages her to join Fairy Tail.

Lucy creates a team alongside Natsu and his cat-like Exceed companion, Happy, which includes Gray Fullbuster, an ice wizard; Erza Scarlet, a magical knight; and Wendy Marvell and Carla, another Dragon Slayer and Exceed combination.

The group works together on a variety of assignments, including apprehending criminals, unlawful dark guilds, and ancient Etherious monsters created by Zeref, a magician cursed with immortality and terrible strength.

Natsu and his comrades discover Zeref living alone on Fairy Tail's holy site of Sirius Island, where he professes a wish to die for the horrors he has perpetrated. Fairy Tail and the dark guild Grimoire Heart fight for control of Zeref, attracting the attention of the terrible black dragon Acnologia.

When the soul of their guild's founder and Zeref's estranged lover, Mavis Vermillion, casts the protective Fairy Sphere spell, the Fairy Tail wizards survive Acnologia's attack and are suspended in time for seven years. Later, Fairy Tail fights the Etherious evil guild Tartaros, which is attempting to open a book containing E.N.D., Zeref's ultimate demon.

When Acnologia returns to wipe out both guilds, Igneel, who had been trapped within Natsu, emerges to fight Acnologia, only to be murdered in front of a powerless Natsu, who embarks on a training trip to revenge Igneel.

Production Story of Fairy Tail

Hiro Mashima felt his last work, Rave Master, to be emotional and melancholy at the same time; therefore, he intended his new manga's narrative to have “a lot of fun.”  He got the idea for the series while sitting in pubs with his buddies.  He also stated that the series is about young people discovering their purpose in life, such as a profession.

On September 3, 2002, Mashima released a one-shot titled Fairy Tale in Magazine Fresh. It follows a guild of couriers and the protagonist, Natsu, a fire-breathing spirit, as he transports various items on various tasks.

Del Rey Manga has licenced the series for an English-language distribution in North America. The first volume of the series was launched on March 25, 2008, and the series lasted until September 2010, when the 12th volume was released. Following the closure of Del Rey Manga, Kodansha USA purchased the licence and resumed publishing Fairy Tail volumes in May 2011.

On January 23, 2018, they released the 63rd and last volume. In November 2015, Kodansha USA began releasing a bigger omnibus edition of the series. Each instalment, titled Fairy Tail: Master's Edition, corresponds to five regular-sized volumes. On October 24, 2017, they released the first volume of Fairy Tail S: Tales from Fairy Tail.

Other English-speaking nations have also licenced manga. Turnaround Publisher Services distributes the volumes in the United Kingdom. Penguin Books Australia distributes manga in Australia and New Zealand.
