Eminem's new musical release, “The Death of Slim Shady (Cou de Gras),” hit the public stage last Friday and it's full of controversial lyrics. The ninth song of this album “Fuel” is especially becoming the topic of discussion.
The song features Eminem rapping about a controversial issue, referencing the unfortunate incident that occurred on the set of “Rust” where Alec Baldwin killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins with live bullets from a firearm.
Eminem, in his usual self-deprecating style, says, “You can be like Halyna Hutchins / Like Alec Baldwin, I mean your gun can be shot, cou de gras still.” The song's release coincided with Baldwin's ongoing manslaughter trial, forcing the actor to come to the fore once again.
At the beginning of the trial, Baldwin's attorney Alex Spiro gave a strategic defense, explaining that it was important to understand the complexities of firearms regulations on movie sets. “On a movie set, shooting is permitted. Whether he did it intentionally or not… that doesn't make him guilty of murder.”
“When this issue discussed, it’s easy to sort of pull yourself into courtroom-land and away from a movie set. He did not know, or have any reason to know, that the gun was loaded with a live bullet. That’s the key. That live bullet is the key. That is the lethal element,” Spiro added.
Eminem has created his twelfth studio album titled “The Death of Slim Shady” as a “conceptual album.” He cautioned listeners that the songs may not fully connect if heard out of sequence.
