Even though fans might have wanted it, Dune 2 wasn't always a sure thing. After the success of Denis Villeneuve's Dune movie, it didn't take long for the sequel to be confirmed and the vast cast list to start getting names.
The sequel, which will be called Dune: Part Two, will take fans back to Arrakis to tell the rest of Paul Atreides' story. Villeneuve's choice to split Frank Herbert's book into two parts made the end of Part One a massive cliffhanger. Villeneuve is even thinking about making a trilogy by adapting Herbert's Dune Messiah for the third movie.
We believe it will depend on how well Part Two does at the box office, but you should never bet against Dune. But before we get too far ahead, here is everything you need to know about Dune: Part Two.
What Will Happen in Dune 2?
The official plot summary for Dune: Part Two says that the movie will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family.
Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he tries to stop a terrible future that only he can see.” The first movie covered just over half of Herbert's book, ending as Paul and Lady Jessica were.

House Atreides has been wiped out, so it will be them against the Empire in the sequel. We can expect to see more of Paul's visions of the future coming true as he leads a revolt against the Empire.
Villeneuve said that he had thought about ending the movie later because of the time jump in the book, but he decided that his “first instinct” to break after Paul meets the Fremen was the right place.
Paul's ability to see into the future made the first movie full of exciting hints about what was to come for the character as he tried to figure out his ultimate fate, which could have something to do with Chani and the Fremen of Arrakis.
Villeneuve hinted that the second movie would “go a little bit deeper into some of these details,” like Feyd-Rautha. He said, “It's like a chess game.” “In the second part, there will be some new characters.”
He says the sequel will have “a lot more Harkonnen stuff.”Even if you've read the book, Javier Bardem has been hinting that the sequel won't be a simple retelling, so don't take your guesses as facts just yet.
Who Will Be in the Cast of Dune 2?
Many of the actors from Dune are back for Dune 2. That means Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgrd, and Dave Bautista, who all played significant characters who lived through the events of Part 1.

Villeneuve has said that there will be new characters and that House Harkonnen will be a big focus. We won't know who these might be or who will play them until we find out more. There are many secrets in the Dune universe, and we shouldn't assume anything about Spice.
Austin Butler played Elvis in Baz Luhrmann's movie and joined Dune 2 as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen. Florence Pugh will play Princess Irulan Corrino. The famous actor Christopher Walken will also be in the movie as Emperor Shaddam IV, which is a big deal.

Dune 2 Release Date
The original release date for Dune: Part Two was October 20, 2023, but it was moved to November 17, 2023. There has been no explanation for the delay.
Unlike the first movie, which came out in theatres and on HBO Max on the same day, likely, the sequel will only be shown in theatres in the US. It won't be available to stream on the same day.

As already said, the second movie's filming began on July 18, 2022, and will take place in Budapest, Abu Dhabi, Jordan, and Italy. As long as filming doesn't take longer than planned, we all hope to go back to Arrakis in November 2023 as planned. Hopes are high.
How Many Movies Will Be Made About Dune?
As mentioned above, Villeneuve doesn't necessarily think that Part Two will end his Dune movie series. He has shown interest in making a trilogy that includes Frank Herbert's second book, Dune Messiah.
Since the second movie has been given the go-ahead, who knows? If Villeneuve has his way, at least three films could be made. Also, there are four more books after the first two, but the main characters from the first two only play essential roles in the third.
Is There a Trailer for Dune: Part 2?
Not yet, but if production moves quickly, we might get a first look by the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023.
