James Daniel and his fraternal twin Jonathan Scott were born on April 28, 1978, in Vancouver, British Columbia, and Andrew Alfred Scott was born two years later (by four minutes). To the amazement of his parents, Jim and Joanne Scott, she gave birth to a second child instead of the one she expected.

They were raised by their Scottish immigrant father Jim, who wanted to be a cowboy like the ones he saw on television when he was a youngster. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, he worked in the film business as a stuntman, actor, and assistant director.

His decision to devote his efforts to raising his family came about this time,  They then relocated to Maple Ridge, British Columbia, where they bought a horse farm. He was a youth counselor while Joanne was a paralegal in downtown Vancouver.

They founded their first company, JAM, creating nylon-covered hangers, on the occasion of their seventh birthday, which their father pushed them to do.

They claim to have sold them door-to-door until a Japanese woman selling American memorabilia placed an order for thousands of them.

James would commonly renovate their properties and would pay the boys from as young as eight years old to build and repair fences, decks, and barns.

While growing up at their parents’ house, the twins frequently rearranged the furniture themselves.

They attended Thomas Haney Secondary School, where Drew excelled in athletics, both as a player and as a coach.

 Moving into their new house in Alberta, the twins were about to go to university in Calgary.
