Dopesick Season 2 Release Date: is It Renewed or Canceled? All You Need to Know!

American drama miniseries Dopesick, written by Danny Strong, is based on Beth Macy's nonfiction book of the same name, which follows the lives of drug dealers, doctors, and the pharmaceutical company responsible for America's opioid crisis. On October 13, 2021, Hulu aired the first three episodes of an eight-part series.

Dopesick examines what the author calls “the epicenter of America's struggle with opioid addiction” in the United States, from the personal and familial effects of this epidemic to the alleged conflicts of interest between government agencies like the Food and Drug Administration and Purdue Pharma, and finally to the legal case against Purdue Pharma and their development, testing, and marketing of the drug OxyContin.

There are eight episodes in the first season, and each one lasts between 57 and 65 minutes. On Hulu since its premiere on October 13, 2021, the show is still viewable today. The show's story is original, and it's told with a lot of heart and feelings. Throughout the series, the acting and dialogue delivery has been superb. dopesick season 2 release date

Hulu has not yet announced whether or not there will be a Season 2. In addition, during a recent conversation with a fan in November 2021, creator Danny Strong did not rule out the possibility of the program continuing in any capacity. Strong was optimistic about returning for a second season, but he did note that no formal contract negotiations had occurred as of yet.

Therefore, the success of the first season will determine whether or not there will be a second. The streaming service may decide to buy a second season of the show if its viewership much exceeds initial expectations.

The drama series is based on a non-fiction work with a rather straightforward plot, so viewers shouldn't have too high of expectations. True, it's being promoted as a miniseries right now.

If a second season is indeed approved in the coming months, though, Strong and his crew will require some time to conduct additional research and develop yet another compelling plot for the show. Season 2 of ‘Dopesick' could premiere in 2023 if the show is greenlit before then.

Who Will Return for Season 2 of “Dopesick?”

Doctor Samuel Finnix (Michael Keaton), Richard Sackler (Michael Stuhlbarg), and Rick Mountcastle (Peter Sarsgaard) are the film's three main protagonists. The rest of the main cast includes John Hoogenakker, Rosario Dawson (Bridget Meyer), Will Poulter (Billy Cutler), Kaitlyn Dever (Betsy Mallum), and Hoogenakker himself (Randy Ramseyer).

After what happened to her character at the end of the first season, it's quite unlikely that Dever would return for a second. Nonetheless, if the show is picked up for a second season, the creators may decide to start again with a brand new cast.

The Expected Storyline for Dopesick Season 2

Season one of “Dopesick” opens with the creation of OxyContin, an opioid-based medication, by Richard Sackler. It begins with the drug's introduction to the market and continues through the litigation brought against Purdue Pharma almost a decade later.

Finally, Mountcastle and Ramseyer succeed in revealing the truth about OxyContin's false advertising and the wrongdoings of Purdue Pharma. As a result, Purdue receives massive amounts of negative press and fines.

If a second season does get made, it may investigate other pharmaceutical giants' complicity in the opioid crisis.

In the season one conclusion, Mountcastle and Ramseyer are getting ready to investigate another pharmaceutical company, which could be the focus of season two.

Where Can I Get the Dopesick Season 2 Trailer?

Tough to say without a trailer, but we don't have one right now. Dopesick may not be for everyone, but if you're in the mood for a mindless comedy, the first season is still highly recommended. If you've previously seen the first season and have some ideas about the show, you might want to watch it again with fresh eyes.

Dopesick: Season 1 Streaming Options

Dopesick will be available for streaming on Hulu to anyone who wants to watch it, but that viewing will require a subscription. All episodes of Dopesick, a Disney+ Star Original, are available on the streaming service outside the US.

Dopesick's first season may be seen in its entirety on Hulu right now.
